  Training Program 

At 5 Star CDL Academy in Fort Wayne, Indiana, our 3-week Class A CDL Training Program is designed to provide students with the knowledge, hands-on experience, and confidence needed to earn their Commercial Driver's License and begin a successful career in the trucking industry.
 

During the first week, students complete the required ELDT Theory Training through either traditional classroom instruction or our convenient online theory course. This portion of the program covers FMCSA-required topics, including vehicle systems, basic and advanced operating procedures, safe driving practices, inspections, cargo securement, hours of service, and other essential knowledge required of professional commercial drivers.
 

The second and third weeks focus on Behind-the-Wheel (BTW) training, where students receive extensive hands-on instruction from experienced CDL instructors. Training begins on our dedicated driving range, where students develop proficiency in vehicle control, shifting, backing maneuvers, coupling and uncoupling, offset backing, parallel parking, alley docking, and other CDL skills required for the state skills examination. Students then transition to public road training, gaining real-world driving experience in city traffic, rural roads, highways, intersections, railroad crossings, and various driving conditions while learning the safe operating practices expected of professional commercial drivers.
